I deleted my initial post regarding this link b/c I was so floored by its content that my comment was probably a bit heated. So here I am to post it again after reigning in my initial reaction. I wasn't going to come back and comment, I felt that...

Cris, Considering the broader context of the thread response written by the anonymous poster, I do not agree with your assessment of it being paternalistic or class-ist. It may be reactionary, but I find your cut and paste assessment a bit opport...

Amen Sara! Amen Valerie! I appreciate such beautiful and articulate words from both of you. And I couldn't agree more. Ok, so I have perused this issue online quite a bit, including the FPD forum on AAAOM. I have read Mark Seems' open letter, I ...

No, I would not be opposed to tiered licensing. Tiered licensing would enable potential practitioners with choice. Those who want an MS level would then be able build a practice on this knowledge base, and those who want a broader education could...

My acupuncture story:
Successful treatments for pain and disharmony led me to think that my friend should take up acupuncture. I thought she would be good at it. Then it occurred to me that I was really enthusiastic about it because I loved it and why not study it myself? I come from a long line of physicians. Healing is in my blood. I have studied Eastern thought for a long time. It seemed a perfect melding of two systems for me. So here I am.

Kaiser Surgeon lying to patient about acupuncture risk!! OPinions please???

Here is an email I got from my friend today. She wrote to me and my sister (who is a nurse). Of course I fired back telling her about our sterilized needles, clean needle technique, risk of infection, etc...etc....

I need some help here though. any thoughts on this? Even if you just want to vent? It infuriates me so much that this surgeon is convincing his patient to stop acupuncture based on ignorance.

ugh.

Hey y'all,

The first link is my mom on CBS morning show. The second is an LA times piece. The discussion on healthcare is on the table. We just need to get single payer on that table.

Got Statistical Literacy? What health statistics mean to you and your patients!

http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=knowing-your-chances

Please read the above article about health statistics. This is a very reader friendly article that clearly outlines such concepts in medical literature as absolute vs. relative risk, etc... Very insightful and a must read for anyone who plans on doing research or anyone who plans on reading anything regarding health...or anyone who reads...um, yeah...read it! Here are the key concepts of the article that I have copied here:

Think the pharmaceutical industry is screwed up? Oh...you have no idea!

Hello all,

I often watch Bill Moyer's Journal online for reliable and smart news coverage. Last night I was watching his video interview with Melody Peterson. She wrote a very well researched (8 yrs) book on the pharmaceutical industry.

I knew it was bad. I cringe whenever I see the reps in my Dr.'s office. I myself do believe that many pharmaceuticals are a valuable resource for those who need them. But the operative statement is "those who need them."

As health care practitioners we need to… Continue
